Characters of MLP:FiM (Rarity)

(Created by DShou)

Who is Rarity? Rarity is a unicorn, who represents the Element of Generosity. She sells and creates dresses at her store called the Carousal Boutique. She has a younger sister named Sweetie Belle who still does not have her cutie mark. As the episodes progress, her store slowly gets more and more popular.

Personality

Rarity is the most overdramatic pony on the show. Rarity puts a lot of emotion in her voice and her movement.

She also has very high standards for herself. This does not mean she thinks she is better than her friends, she just doesn't do things that would ruin her image, like laying in the grass for instance. She tries to help her friends' images as well from time to time. She also does not like to get dirty.

Rarity to me

As you can tell, I'm not the biggest fan of Rarity, but I do like her. I love it when she hams up her acting in some episodes.

"It's just girl show", They Said

(Artist: Unknown)

Whenever a conversation comes up about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (by my volition or my friends and colleagues) their is always a naysayer. That one person who has to chime in "It's just a girl show. What's the big deal?" or my favorite, "Grown men watching a show for little girls. That's wrong!". Well I've got a question for you people. Why do you watch your favorite show? May it be Doctor Who, Big Bang Theory, Game of Thrones, or some other show, why do you watch it? Is it the characters and their development that makes you stick around? The plot and story arcs? How about the music or the style of the show? Do you have that reason in your head? Well congratz, you are a "brony" of your favorite show. Just replace "MLP:FiM" with your favorite show and you'll be in our mindset.

To the people who say we're freaks for watching MLP:FiM, you now the same stuff happens in other fandoms as well right? Their are people who fantasize about being in Equestria as well as people who want to live in Hyrule (Legend of Zelda) or many other fictional worlds. Their are pony fanfics of varying topics , Safe and Not Safe For Work, all over the internet, as well as fanfics from other fandoms. Yes, even that preschool show you had in your head has a fanfic or hundred. Pony fanart gushes from the seams of the internet, as well as other fan works' fanart.

Bronies are just like any other fan community member. Every fan community has it's share of undesirable people in it's community. If you say one Brony is a freak, you are telling everyone else in the world they are freaks for loving their fandom. Just think about it.

Characters of MLP:FiM (Rainbow Dash)

Today, I'm going to talk about one of the most famous characters on the show. The pegasus who bucked a dragon in the nose and made it flinch. Able to clear a sky of clouds in under ten seconds A pegasus who is willing to throw away her dreams for the sake of her friends. The only pegasus who has broken the sound barrier at the same time a beautiful rainbow, all while keeping it awesome. The one and only Element of Loyalty herself Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash is by far one of the most epic characters on this show. She bucked a dragon in the snout and lived for goodness sake! She also performed a feat called the Sonic Rainboom. It's essentially a sonic boom, but when it booms, it creates a rainbow explosion.

Who is Rainbow Dash as a character though? Dash is an hot-blooded, dutiful pegasus who has a dream of joining what is the equivalent to the air force in Equestria, the Wonderbolts. She is the most loyal member of the main characters. If her friends are in danger she drops everything, even her dreams, and goes to rescue them. She also speaks her mind a lot on the show.

Due to her skills, she has a fan base in Ponyville. Sometimes this fame will go to her head and will act arrogant and boast. When she is not doing her job or some sort of arial trick, she will lounge around.

Rainbow Dash to Me

I love Rainbow Dash to pieces. I love how she is a hot-blooded pegasus who speaks her mind and does so many acts of awesome on a show who's primary demographic is little girls. It really gives them a great role model to look up to. A character who is willing to put her life on the line for her friends. What more can you ask for?

"The Boy Who Became a Brony"

Once upon a time there was a boy who lived in New England. He of course was no ordinary boy. Everyone around him thought  he was crazy and did not want to get to know him, at all. He would shout, dance, pretend fight, talk to himself, and would not stop talking about certain things. Those who actually braved such elements found the boy was just eccentric and perfectly sane (expect for the whole talking to himself thing, he needs to work on that still). Due to his antics though, he did not have many friends.
What were these certain things you may ask. Boy shows and video games.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Owned by Saban)
 G Gundam (Owned by Sunrise)
Yoshi's Story (Owned by Nintendo)

He grew up with many of these things and other stuff like it. When he saw stuff like this...
(Owned by Hasbro)
...he would laugh about how girly such a show was. Talking multicolored equines? Ha! They didn't shoot lasers or have epic showdowns with their enemies. All they did was sit around and have tea parties, go shopping, and do their hair!  "That's not manly!", said the boy, "Punching your foe in the face with the power of friendship? Now that's manly!"
Many years past, the boy was in college. He was still into the shows and games he loved, but now he was deeply into Magic: the Gathering...
(Owned by Wizards of the Coast)
Then one day, he ment a man. He talked to the boy a lot, but the man talked about something strange. Something that went against all the boy believed. This man liked talking magical equines. Specifically My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. At first the boy was completely against the idea of talking to the man, but the man wouldn't stop talking. Soon the boy just listened to what the man said day after day.
After months of listening to the man, the boy decided to watch the first episode of the show, just one. The boy thought he was going to make fun of the show, but found the episode was good. Great even! He then watch another episode, then another, and then another! Soon he found himself two seasons deep in episodes and he loved every minute of it! He loved how the ponies fought villains while using the power of friendship! The art was cute, but not diabetes inducing! The voice acting and the writing was terrific!  The boy had changed into a fan of this show! He stated to read fan fics, looked at fan art, and discussed the ideas the show brought up with other fans!
Then he made a blog called "Gates to Bronydom"...

...The End

My Opinion on "Double Rainboom"

Before I even talk about my opinion, what is Double Rainboom? Double Rainboom by a group called Flamingo Rich lead by Zach Rich. Him and his team created the first ever fan made-non-profit episode of MLP:FiM. Before you continue reading this you should watch it first. Trust me.

What did I think of it?

For fan animation, it's amazing.  The actual animation was spectacular. The movement of the characters bodies and mouths was almost on par with the show. The voice acting was also great. The voice actors did a good job of sounding like the original voice actors on the show.  The jokes on the other hand were hit or miss though. Sometimes the jokes made me laugh, but other times I rolled my eyes. I'm not going to spoil anything, but the twist in the episode blew me away. Did not see THAT coming at all.

Now as a an "episode of MLP:FiM", I would say it was...okay. While I was watching this I felt very uncomfortable. This may be because Flamingo Rich called this a "fan made Episode of the show". This in turn caused me expect the animation, voice acting, and everything else to be like MLP:FiM. It's not.

It's an impressive fan animation, but a sub-par episode.

If you would like to know more about Double Rainboom and the staff of Flamingo Rich, vist their site here.

The Characters of MLP: FiM (Fluttershy)

(Art By Celebi-Yoshi)

Today I'm going to talk about Fluttershy, my 2nd favorite character on the show and the Element of Kindness. Fluttershy on the show is a...well...shy Pegasus pony. She lives outside of Ponyville and has the ability to talk to animals. She can fly, but ironically she is afraid of heights. She is also one of the kindest out of the cast, even when she didn't know she was the bearer of the Element of Kindness. Being shy and passive, Fluttershy is the most vulnerable character out of the cast. If somepony were to pick on Fluttershy, one of her friends will jump in to protect her. Her longest known friend is Rainbow Dash.

Like Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy isn't always shy, much how Pinkie isn't always happy. When push comes to shove (her friends being in danger for example) Fluttershy will drop her shyness in jump into action. Most times she uses her other special gift: The Stare.

(Owned by Hasbro)
Fluttershy can stare into (almost) any living creature and scare the subject so bad, they can't move. Then their are times when she gets pushed beyond this part. She can get ANGRY. God help you if you make Fluttershy angry.

(Owned by Hasbro)
*shudder* Seriously, don't enrage Fluttershy.

Fluttershy to me and the fans

Let's just say this, If someone talks about Fluttershy badly, I get mad. This mindset goes for some fans as well. Want to see Brony rage in action? Go to any forum, chat room, or social network with a lot of bronies in it. Talk smack about Fluttershy. What should happen is everyone and their mother will flame your comment to high heaven! You will get death threats out the anus! So don't do that if you value your internet life.

The Results Are In !

(Artist Unknown)

So after a week of trying the pony hypnosis, I have come back with results: It kinda works.

In More Detail

The first thing I did was pick a hypnosis track. I picked the Fluttershy. Why? I have always wanted to be a pegasus, flying free, and doing whatever I want. Also she is my second favorite character on the show next to Pinkie Pie. I've always wanted to know what it was like to be her. To be shy and reserved.
(Vector by StunnerMan)
After I downloaded the track, I put it on my Ipod, got comfortable on my bed, and pressed the play button. I've got to say, it worked a little bit. I actually felt like my arms were turning into hooves! Everything else was hit or miss. I did feel like I had wings for a bit, but then the feeling faded away. The hair and snout were impossible to imagine for me, that goes along with gaining hind legs. Yet when the track was done, I did feel like a pony, but only for a brief few seconds. I giggled myself out of it every time. I don't know if it's out of embarrassment or giddiness though.

I'm absolutely going to download more tracks and you should too! I think I'll try the Pinkie Pie track next...

Pony Hypnosis

So their I was again, shuffling through the usual sites I go through, then I stop on Equestria Daily and click the Nightly Roundup. The Nightly Roundup is kinda like a late night newspaper of sorts. It normally talks about ponies appearing in other media, cakes, and other pony videos. One such pony video caught my attention. It's title...Pony Hypnosis Trick. Here's the video...
I have not even tried it yet and I already got butterflies in my stomach! I have always wanted to be a pony in Equestria for a while, well, alittle after I started watching the show. Yeah, I lose my opposable thumbs and fingers, but I don't care! I find Equestria to be a more fascinating world than the one I live in.I could say that about any other fictional world for that matter (I'm looking at you Tales of Symphonia).

I've been hypnotized before, twice actually, and both were from a real life hypnotist. The first time was amazing. I actually felt like I was at the places he was describing and I didn't feel weird doing the actions he told me to do. The second time on the other hand, I didn't like it. I could not get into it. Shame really.

Over the course of my coming nights, I will be listening to one of these tracks and try to get hypnotized.  On my next blog post I will tell you the results and what I experienced. If you would like to join me, here's a link. GET HYPNOTIZED!

My Thoughts on Equestria Girls

So there I was, on my laptop. I was going through my normal rounds. It usually goes Youtube, Equestria Daily, DeviantArt,  Facebook, and then TvTropes. Now I went on Equestria Daily expecting some funny comics to read and some cool pictures to look at. I wasn't expecting...this. The picture below sums up my facial reaction...
What you and I are looking at is the Hub's new spin-off show, Equestria Girls. It's going to have the same cast as on Friendship is Magic, but they are in Middle/High school. Now don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly accept humanized ponies. The execution of the design on this show is what bothers me.

Off the bat the thing that bothers me is the skin color. Why are the people in this universe colored so wildly? Have you ever seen a naturally blue person? How about violet? Heres my theory why though. The creators are trying to avoid another flame war. They could of made the characters different ethnicities , but that would upset a lot of people. It still bothers me though...

Another that disturbs me is how they combined the features of the characters on the show with humans. Skin color aside, notice how all the characters have pony ears instead of human ears, their cutie marks on their clothes and cheek (you have to look really close to see the cheek c. mark), and their hair color. They also gave the characters unnaturally long hair to symbolize their tails (I wonder how much dirt and other stuff that must pick up when they walk.). Also for Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy they have wings. My brain is contemplating if these characters are human or some hybrid monstrosity.

Okay. I can see why the character design looks like this. They want people to easily recognize which character is which. Yet, I think they went a little overboard with the characteristics. Really, they could just shorten their hair, give them human ears, remove the wings and cheek cutie marks. Everything else is fine and makes the characters easier for other people to relate to.

When this show does come out, I'm going to watch the episode and see if I like it or not. If I don't like it, I won't watch it. If I do like it, then I'll continue watching it. Simple.

I shall leave you with this happy image. Have a nice day

The Characters of MLP:FiM (Pinkie Pie)

Who is Pinkie Pie? Pinkie Pie or Pinkamena Diane Pie is a hyperactive pink earth pony. She loves parties, cakes, candies, but most of all she loves to make people smile! Heck, she as a PARTY CANNON. It's a cannon she uses to transport all her party supplies super fast. She even has a song on the show dedicated to her love of making people smile! Take a look...

At first glance, Pinkie looks like the kind of pony who is immune to negative feelings, like sadness or anger for example. She looks and sounds like the most annoying, and the dumbest of the main cast. She doesn't stop talking! Also, what's with her and singing about smiling and making people happy? You can't be happy all the time. What the heck is their to like about this pony?

Well for starters, Pinkie is actually capable of feeling negative emotions. If one were to watch certain episodes, you can actually see her expressing feeling besides joy. We can actually see her being sad in the episodes called "Party of One" and "Too Many Pinkie Pies". In the episode "The Last Round Up" we can actually see her full on rage! I do not want to spoil why exactly she is expressing these emotions. So I guess you'll have to watch the episodes.

Yes, Pinkie can be loud, random, but she is far from dumb. Pinkie just has her own ways of solving problems. Really, Pinkie is just a man child (pony philly?), she expresses her emotions to extremes. She seeks fun and entertainment. In spite of this, Pinkie will still try to act like an adult from time to time ("Baby Cakes").

Her singing and preaching about smiling and being happy? What's wrong with that? It's not like she's singing about murder as well.

Pinkie Pie to Me

Pinkie Pie is one of my all favorite characters out of the main cast. I can really see a lot me in her. We both love to try to make people happy. We both say random things from time to time. We also express are attitudes in extremes. Yeah, my friends get annoyed with that sometimes, but my friends have come to accept me for my faults. I guess from episode to episode, Pinkie's friends got used to her quirks too.

Derpy Hooves (or Ditzy Doo)

Hello again! Today on Gate to Bronydom, we are going to talk about a very importent character in the Brony fanbase. That character is...

Derpy Hooves (or Ditzy Doo) !
(Vector by TheDarkestDayDream)

Derpy Whooves on the show is nothing more than a background character, but in the Brony fandom she is a mascot! She was first spotted in the first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Ever since fans spotted her, her popularity exploded!

Ever since then, Bronies have been drawing fanart of her, writing fanfics of her adventures, given her a family and most of all a personality. Of course the creators of the show noticed this activity. So in response, the creators put her in each episode (Up to most of season 3. Their is a reason why.), but not in blatantly obvious places . It was kinda like playing "Where's Waldo?" except with a grey Pegasus.

The creators also dropped hints about Derpy in the show and in the products they sell. For one, her job is delivering mail to other ponies and the other is that her favorite food is muffins.

Why all this attention to one Pegasus with silly eyes and a streak of clumsiness? Like for the many reasons people like to watch My Little Pony: FiM, their are many reasons why people like Derpy. For me, I felt like I could relate to her. We both have a disorder of some kind (Derpy with her eyes. Me with my Asbergers) and we are both clumsy. Also her crossed eyed expressions are adorable!

Things were looking great for the grey mailmare. That was...until the episode "The Last Roundup" aired...

Oh my goodness the internet exploded when Derpy talked! Actually, it exploded twice, because Rainbow Dash referred to Derpy by name! This was a momentous event to Bronies everywhere! The creators of the show actually cared about the Bronies! This was like a love letter to us!

Now of course, parents and other bronies had a problem with Derpy talking on the show. They said that Derpy's voice made her sound like she had special needs. They also said that Rainbow Dash was speaking way to harsh to Derpy, being "special needs" and all. Their was a giant flame ware between Bronies who like the original scene better (I'm in that camp) and Bronies (along with parents) who thought the scene was immorally wrong. So the creators went back and redid the scene...

This action only put oil to the flame war. So the creators decided to just put the redone scene on the itunes store, and just use the original scene for the DVD and future episodes (As in repeats). Derpy has not been seen much for the rest of season 2 and  most of season 3. She reappears in the season 3 finale though!

So why exactly am I talking about Derpy, when I could be talking about something else? Well, for one I'm a fan of Derpy, and two their is actually a day completely dedicated to her on March 1st called Derpy Day 2013: Operation Indiscriminate Friendship. On this day, you eat muffins, write someone a letter, and take a picture of yourself cross-eyed. Well I'm going to take it a step further! I'm going to be giving all my friends at college muffins (and maybe my teacher if their are any left.)! I'm going to make this the best start to the longest month of the year!

Thanks for reading! Have a very Derpy Day!

Where to Start...

(All content shown on this post is owned and made by Hasbro. I do not own these episodes, nor do I take part in their creation. I'm just spreading the word. I'm not being paid to do this.)

Hello folks! This post is to all my viewers who don't watch the regularly and have not seen any episodes yet. With 3 seasons worth of episodes you're probably wondering, "Where do I even start?". Well, you could always start with the first episode (which is a two parter)...

Season 1, Episode 1

Season 1, Episode 2

I think they are great first episodes. These episode also introduce a change in the My Little Pony series as a whole. Gone are the days of shallow, flat characters. Now their are rounded characters with flaws and goals. Actual conflict and evil characters that could potentially harm the characters on the show (It's kinda hard to live without sunlight. Think about it.). An art style that does not make you roll your eyes in doubt. It's great!

If you don't want to sit through 44 minutes of this show, you could try watching a single parter episode. In seasons 1 and 2, you can watch the episodes out of order and not care about the continuity, but once you get into the show, watching them in order is highly satisfying.

If I was going to show a person who was new to the show an episode, I would show him an episode called "Dragonshy"...

I find this to be a great starter episode because it involves all the mane cast, a good conflict and resolution, and has a good number of funny and awesome bits in the episode. It also proves that the characters are not flat as people think they are. Lastly, it does all this in 22 minutes, where the pilot does this in 44 minutes.

I hope these episodes I picked out change you mind about the series and makes you wanna watch them more. If it didn't, oh well, I tried. No ones forcing you to like it.

What is a Brony Exactly?

A Brony is a fan of My Little Pony. Anyone you know can potentially be or already is a Brony. They can be any age or race. It's really no different than being a fan of anything else really. Well, except for, y'know, the media's focus on us. Also because of all the fan material we make all the time. Bronies have have made more fan material than any other fan group, combined.
What do Bronies create exactly? Well, for one, they make absolutely gorgeous and varying fanart.
(Created by Equestria-Prevails)

(Created by ~cmaggot)

(Created by Mousu)

Bronies also create wonderful original music and remixes of existing songs on the show.
(Created by MandoPony and AcousticBrony)

(Created by Eurobeat Brony)

Bronies have also been writing a plethora of fanfics. Some fanfics I have read actual change my view on the character or the world of My Little Pony itself. Of course their are the, less than safe for work stories. We're not perfect. Along with stories, Bronies create blogs, like me! Some blogs are like mine, or are character blogs. My personal favorite is "Ask Hotblooded Pinkie Pie". It's Pinkie Pie, if she was combined with every badass character in existence, and it is AWESOME.
In the end, we're just like any other human being, we just like a show that "men" don't normally watch. Tune in next week for more posts!

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to my blog, Gate to Bronydom! On this blog I'll be talking about My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Bronies, and anything else that has to do with those two topics! Let's get started, shall we?

Now I bet I know what you are asking, "What is a Brony ?" Well, a Brony is a teenage or adult fan (generally male)  of My Little Pony, and we are proud of it ! Your second question is probably "Why?" Their are many answers to that my friend. One fan may tell you it's the plot that got them caught up in the show, another may tell it's the well-rounded characters on the show, one fan may tell you it's the well crafted, catchy music, or another may tell you it's the art that caught their eye. Heck, it could be any combination of any of those reasons! Of course, because this goes against the norm of "men watch manly shows, while girls watch girly shows", we get a lot of hate from people.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (or MLP:FiM) is about  Twilight Sparkle; a book smart but socially inept unicorn with her friends Pinkie Pie; an energetic pony who loves parties, Applejack; a humble pony who owns an apple orchid, Rainbow Dash; a loyal but brash pegasus, Rarity; a generous dress making unicorn, and Fluttershy; a...well...shy pegasus who has a gift of being able to talk to animals. The show revolves around these six ponies as they go on adventures and learn about the magic of friendship in the land of Equestria.

If you would like more information on the show or Bronies, then click here!

Their will be more info and other stuff over the coming weeks, so keep a good eye on my blog! Please...?
